Locally grown food is better for your health, better for the environment, and the right choice to support the local economy.  Learn how to plan a weekly menu, appreciate the benefis of eating local and in season and read lables to help make the healthiest choices at the grocery store.

Gardening Fundamentals

Instruction time 7.5 hours

Understanding the basics will help answer many common gardening problems and will help you become a better gardener.  This class will cover the basics of soils, climate, plant nutrition, botany, mulches and watering.  The concept of integrated plant management (IPM) will be emphasized throughout.  A class most suited for new gardeners or gardeners new to the Camrose area.

Please be prepared to commit to attending all three sessions for continuity and the respect of all participants.  A fee of $30 (dollars) will be charged for these three sessions to cover the cost of instructional materials and handouts.  Left over funds will be used to purchase gardening media for the library.   Enrolment limited to 20 people.

Low Maintenance Yards

Love gardening but short on time and effort?  This session will address low maintenance garden issues such as xeriscaping, low maintenance perennials and mulches.  Your low maintenance yard need not disgrace the neighbours.

Writing Your Memoir

Fran Kimmel is a dynamic presenter and has developed and delivered extensive writing, communications, and personal development training sessions. Fran’s writing portfolio includes short fiction, internet writing, website development, newspaper and magazine features, teen magazine columns, radio drama, educational video, and corporate writing. Fran has won a number of regional and national awards for short fiction, radio drama, and business writing. Most recently, she was a finalist for the 2009 CBC Literary Awards.

Are you interested in writing your life history, but don’t know where to begin, what to put in, or what to leave out? Writing a memoir is a way to figure out who you used to be and how you became who you are. In this session, we will share ideas for sifting through old memories to find the writer within. You will need to bring a pen and notebook and your desire to write and learn.
